Another year going by means another special edition Ford Mustang is about to join the party, although this one’s a bit different to most. The pony car that started it all is celebrating its diamond anniversary, and the 2025 Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary Package is a remarkably tasteful tribute to Mustangs of the past.

Right off the bat, Ford has spent some money on this special edition but giving it a unique alloy wheel design that actually seems to feature a fair amount of bright surface. If anything, the alloy wheels remind me of Porsche’s modern reimagining of classic Fuchs alloy wheels, and that’s not a bad thing.

Stripes on a modern car are also a tricky line to walk, but I reckon the 60th Anniversary Mustang pulls it off. By keeping them thin, tucking them within the scalloping on the lower doors, and using a more delicately weighted font than you might expect, the result is darn near tasteful. Speaking of taste, how about that fabulous badging? Instead of slathering on chrome like on the 50th Anniversary Edition Mustang of 2015, Ford’s brought in some red emblems that tastefully play down the “5.0” fender badging while adding little pops of color.

Speaking of color, it’s nice to see the grille nostrils, and on red and blue cars, the mirror caps painted silver. Maybe it’s 2000s nostalgia on my part, but pops of brightness are so much nicer than boring black trim. Plus, painting the nostrils silver gives a nod to professional drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s RTR Mustangs, a cool piece of modern Mustang heritage.

Otherwise, the Mustang 60th Anniversary Package is mostly parts-bin stuff, but that’s no bad thing. We’re talking headlights with darkened housings from the Nite Pony package, fairly standard premium color upholstery, and all the stuff you’d expect in a reasonably well-equipped Mustang GT. This package will be available on the Mustang GT Premium coupe and convertible, although only 1,965 will be made. Buyers will be able to choose between Race Red, Vapor Blue, and throwback Wimbledon White paint, and order books open this summer.

Ultimately, I’m thankful that Ford didn’t go the California Special route, and instead created a nifty little trim package that’s surprisingly tasteful and honors the Mustang’s heritage well. While the Mustang 60th Anniversary Edition isn’t for everyone, it’s sure to make a small cadre of pony car die-hards happy when it rolls into showrooms this autumn.
