Unsanctioned Walmart parking lot meetups are pretty on-brand for The Autopian, a website run in part by two dipshits whose cars are in a constant state of disrepair. So let’s have another such meetup tomorrow, Friday, October 14, 2022.

It’s been far too long since we Detroit-area Autopians (here’s the Facebook group) have gathered in a Walmart parking lot, stood around for three hours, and talked about cars while eating greasy pizza. So let’s take care of that with a meetup tomorrow, Friday.

Here are the details:

  • What: A meetup for Autopian readers
  • When: Friday, October 14, 2022. 6:30 P.M. (or, as many in the comments will likely call it “Too soon and with not enough advanced notice”)
  • Where: Walmart in Troy — 2001 W Maple Rd, Troy, MI 48084
  • Why: Because everyone else in our lives is tired of listening to us talk endlessly about cars. Also, pizza.

Be there.

  1. The MG is out of commission while I wait for a new starter to arrive on Monday, so I plan to hitch up the truck and bring up a shiny silver thing that wouldn’t be out of place in in the back of a Walmart parking lot. I need to pull it out of the backyard anyway to winterize it and give it a wash and wax this weekend. I don’t suppose Mercedes is joining this meetup?

  2. These meetups are cool. I hope that there’s a follow-up next week showing all of the cool cars that showed up for those of us too far away to attend in person.

Have fun and be safe, Motown Autopians!

  3. I’ll be there. Look for the minty brown 2002 CRV preparing for its first MI winter.

JK – it’s going in storage. Far too nice and pretty to subject it to WinterHell™️.

    1. You could always start your own. I say that as someone who would 100% talk about starting one and then never move beyond that initial step. And who rarely goes to local car meets.

        1. You have made my interest meter spike. Before commitments, is there a definition of what this entails? Or should I email tips to find out more?

I don’t usually have a lot of time on my hands so cannot sink hours a week into this. I do look forward to having meetups in my area or co-ambassador with a group who can take turns running it.

      1. About 10 years ago, I actually did start a local car meet. Well, not really start, more like I took over hosting duties and sorting out where we would meet. It’s a lot of work and it can be a little disheartening when you spend days planning something and a small handful of cars show up when you were expecting 3-5x more. But, it’s also a lot of fun and a good way to meet like-minded people with the same interests.

  4. Egad! The whole front of my car is off to replace the power steering pump…Tracking says the parts should arrive by tomorrow afternoon. It’s gonna be close.

  5. Crap, wish I could make it out to one of these but the schedule isn’t working out. Hopefully you guys will do another before it gets too cold out.
