It’s Friday the 13th! A day that’s supposed to be unlucky because of the dinner reservations Jesus made at the Last Supper or something like that. I’m not really clear why 13 gets such a bad reputation – it’s prime, after all, and aren’t those numbers supposed to be exciting?
Anyway, in an effort to counteract any possible bad fortune, here’s a picture of Ugo Sivocci, the guy who started sticking four-leaf clovers on Alfa Romeos to counteract a streak of bad luck.
It seemed to work for him, at least for a while – he was killed in 1923 while testing the Alfa Romeo Tipo P1 car for the Italian GP, so clearly the clover has its limits.
Despite this, or perhaps as a way of honoring Sivocci, Alfa adopted the symbol, and also I think they have a corporate policy of not walking under ladders.
Anyway, I hope your day is deeply lucky.

In the 80s in the U.K. Alfa started using Cloverleaf as a trim level – Green Cloverleaf for sporty and Gold for luxury. Obviously many jokes about needing the Cloverleaf as a totem to avoid your Sud/33/Sprint from breaking down. Of course Quadrifoglio Verde and Quadrifoglio Oro sound much sexier but presumably not enough confidence to use Italian in those days.
I enjoy the uniqueness and lightness of the clover as a brand sub-symbol.
Pretty much everything else seems like some sort of fast or menacing animal, or something else that’s likewise very serious-sounding (but what am I missing?)
Also, for this particular marque, a luck-promotion symbol couldn’t be a better choice.
Volkswagen Rabbit? I suppose it was originally a model and not a sub-brand (but that reintroduction in ‘06/‘07 was more of a trim level) and who doesn’t think thunderbunny is cute?

Riffing on that, “Golf” is likewise whimsical, even if not originally intended that way (I mean, VW did embrace the other meaning with dimpled shift knobs eventually).

My wife and I got married on Friday, September 13th, 2013. That hasn’t been bad luck so far (and that was a very easy day to book). We consider every Friday the 13th to be a mini-anniversary because we are corny as fuck.
