One of the perks of being an automotive journalist is that automakers and adjacent companies try to give you lots of swag. One of the perks of becoming an Autopian member is that, rather than hoarding all of these luxuries for ourselves, we pass most of them onto you. Not a member? You’ve got until noon on Friday to sign up for membership to be in consideration for swag we got from Pebble Beach, which includes a rare Mustang GTD carbon fiber press kit and some goodies we got from Rolex.

We’ve already surprised one member with a fancy camping blanket from Volkswagen and we’re going to do something similar here. All you have to do is become a member and we’ll fire up the Autopian random number generator and pick some members at random. Here’s what that looks like:

We’ve got four awesome giveaways coming up for you that we’ll hand out soon. The first is the Mustang GTD press kit, which comes in a big fancy box and includes seemingly unreleased pre-production photos from the creation of the GTD as well as a sheet of thin carbon fiber. It’s an extremely rare collectible and we’ve got four of them!

Additionally, while at Pebble Beach we were invited to a special breakfast held by Rolex on the 18th green, which is a ludicrous sentence if you’ve ever met us. The Rolex spread included little smoothies, tasty eggs, and the now ubiquitous “green drink” concoction I’m extremely fond of drinking but loathe to make myself. I gotta say, breakfast did the Swiss watchmaker proud.

As we left, the nice folks who organized the breakfast handed us two gift bags full of goodies, including a Pebble Beach guide I used as a hat at one point to shield my head from the rays of the sun (it didn’t work). You probably don’t want my sun-hat-magazine. Instead, we’re happy to give you an official gold Rolex USB press kit and a high quality keychain showcasing the Rolex crown logo. It’s the perfect pairing for your, uh, 1981 Buick Regal.

Just to summarize, we’re giving out:

  • 2x Rolex keychain + USB combos
  • 4x GTD press kits

That’s six things in total for our roughly 970 members (plus whoever signs up). All members, including Cloth level, are eligible. Good luck!

[Editor’s Note: Hi, it’s David. I have lots of press swag to give out. I’ll be handing it all out to members once I pull it out of boxes and see what’s what. There is some olddd stuff in there like a 2016 Land Rover Discovery press kit, a Dodge Ram DT press kit, and more. -DT]

In the interim, please answer the question: With which vehicle in your fleet would a Rolex keychain fit best?

  1. “With which vehicle in your fleet would a Rolex keychain fit best?”

My Lada 2101 wagon (if I had one). Or my hypothetical rusted out, 3 cylinder 1971 Pinto. Maybe a Trabant.

    Really any shitbox will do.

  2. I was lucky enough to run into the fellas (MH, DT, JT) in the paddock at Laguna Seca last week, and scored a GTD presskit, a GAS hat, AND a couple of stickers. The swag was awesome, but the coolest part was getting spend a few minutes chatting and checking out the sweet club-door Continental they were issued for the week. Definitely one of the highlights of a bucket-list trip for this Oklahoma boy.

  3. In the interim, please answer the question: With which vehicle in your fleet would a Rolex keychain fit best?

I’m going to say the 2012 Honda Accord. The other option is the 2005 Pontiac GTO and…just no.

  4. I’m still sorting out my feelings about having bought a frivolously fun BMW, so I’d hang the key to my jacked up 4wd work van from it.
Id love to have a carbon fiber patch for the ugly hole in my Subaru’s dash where a gauge binnacle should be.

  5. “…and a high quality keychain showcasing the Rolex crown logo. It’s the perfect pairing for your, uh, 1981 Buick Regal.”

All I can say is, you know your audience well.

  6. One might say it would pair best with the 911. But no, it would go with the Corolla.

    Because I may be an… “a-hole”, but I’m not, “100% a dick”.

  7. I love the idea of just grabbing every car key I have, and throwing them all on a Rolex keychain, but the (I am assuming) weighty lump of Rolex metal combined with a dozen or so old car keys would probably break the ignition cylinder on the first attempt.

  8. Either the Bimmer, because the clock is always 5 minutes fast, or the Cougar, because I’ve never bothered to set the clock and I’m not even sure it works, or my mom’s CR-V, because the clock has the glitch where it is permanently 2002.

  9. That Rolex keychain would pair perfectly with my 91 Nissan Laurel keys. The Laurel was Nissan’s midsized luxury car at the time and it’s full of all sorts of bubble era Japan luxury goodness like a full velour red interior, two stage power antenna (it goes up and more up), little green light by the keyhole on the door handle so you can find it in the dark, and a Laurel specific logo on the hood ornament and key itself (no it isn’t a Lexus).

I took it further and replaced my dome light with a small chandelier (it was a thing in late 80s/early 90s Japan) and that keychain would look gorgeous reflecting the light from it.

  10. I would pair the Rolex keychain with the keys to my ’76 Beetle. A Rolex keychain holding the keys to a proletarian People’s Car seems delightfully ironic. I think there is a weird economic metaphor with that combination as well, but I can’t tell if it is Marxist or Capitalist. Is the plutocratic keychain holding back the keys (i.e. the working class) who must achieve freedom through revolution? Or, does the keychain represent how one can become wealthy by cleverly inventing something (i.e. a device that organizes your keys) that improves the lives of the masses?

I’m overthinking this. The keychain looks cool, though.

  11. I want to put a Rolex keychain on something ridiculous. Neither of my vehicles are really appropriate for it, but they are also not far enough from appropriate. The bike lock for my old Peugeot 10 speed might even be too nice. Maybe I’d start looking for a beat-up Geo Tracker or something.

The carbon fiber sheet would be really cool, though.

  12. With which vehicle in your fleet would a Rolex keychain fit best?

Either the early 1980s Yamaha XT250 dual-purpose/enduro motorcycle or… the Jaaag.

Frankly it’s a tough call but I’m gonna go with the XT for maximum irony.

  13. That really nice blanket really took off the sting of not winning the Powerball jackpot.

Cheekiness aside it was nice to get good news out of the blue for once ????

      1. US West Coast (SoCal aside) being the one place in the Northern Hemisphere that has been having a normal summer means it still chills out by night.

  14. I would stick my ’82 Mercedes 300CD Keys on the Rolex key chain. Inflation adjusted MSRP north of 100k and about 3 whole metric cow hides worth of leather plastered on every surface, and the calming, clattery sound of a turbodiesel that should last until the heat death of the universe. The high class lack of a passenger side mirror because the original owner decided they have no need to see the peasants behind them as they waft along in supreme luxury.

Or maybe the keys for my NA Miata just for fun
