Come Celebrate The Autopian’s *One Year Anniversary* At This Big Car Show In Santa Clarita (And Bring Your Junkers)

Ta One Year Meetup

Porsche Cars & Coffee happens the first Saturday of every month at The Autopian founder Beau’s absolutely stunning Porsche dealership in Santa Clarita, California. This upcoming event, on April 1 (which the more astute among you will recognize as, technically, the same day as March 32nd, The Autopian’s anniversary) will be a chance for Autopian readers to hang out with one another and see at least me (and possibly other writers as well). Here are the details.

The truth is, March is a wild month, with The Autopian currently at full tilt trying hard to hit a major milestone in readership. As such, we’re piggybacking our one-year meetup celebration with our co-founder’s already-existing excellent event — Porsche Cars & Coffee. The website I just linked provides the details:

I attended a few months back, and believe me when I say: It’s good. It’s real good. (But get there early at 8AM!).

There was obviously plenty of fancy stuff, like Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Matt Farahs:

And there was the parking lot, which featured significantly more modest vehicles — ones that I as a USD-certified cheap bastard particularly enjoyed:

The point is: Porsche Cars & Coffee at Porsche Santa Clarita is legit, so you should be there on April 1 (March 32nd) at 9AM, and look for the Autopian banner and my junky 1985 Jeep J10 pickup. Bring your junker, and we might have a cool place to park it!

Email david@autopian.com if you’d like your car to have a special space!

  1. Great! Will try and make it out there. That Porsche dealership long ago used to be a Saturn dealership, even bought two SL2s on the same day, good times!

  2. I’d love to but that’s just too far for a short event. Hopefully the next meetup is a little closer to LA proper for us guys coming from OC.

    1. I used to totally agree, but as I’ve got older and sleep eludes me I find myself awake at 7 most weekend days, so now it’s actually nice to go see some cool car stuff for a couple hours and still have the whole day ahead of me.

  3. Yeah that 2-door gasser wagon (lol, “truck frame”) is a 1948-51 “shoebox” Ford, and the fender tells me someone put a 390 V8 in it! I love the 390 V8, I have one in my Thunderbird and it’s a great engine, incredibly reliable for its age and makes torque like a diesel!

If anyone wants to daily drive a classic car and is looking at something with a 390 V8, I’d say go for it. They’re built to last, and even when they’re running poorly they’ll do it longer than most engines will run at all 🙂

  4. Santa Clarita is a bit far for a quick trip down and back from Seattle but as penance for missing this I’ll spend the weekend camping in my car at a Lemons race. The sincerity of my remorse is perhaps only somewhat undercut by the fact that this was already the plan anyway.

    1. So when/where are we having the PNW reader meetup? Perhaps we can take over Leavenworth since the drive and euro show have been shuttered.

    2. It’s honestly a bit far for people in SoCal, too. A two hour event is unfortunately not worth driving the hour 1/2 it takes to get there from Orange County.

  5. Cue the music.

Come with me, and you’ll see,
    A website of shitbox amalgamation
Take a look, and you’ll see
    It’s life’s brown station wagon.

If you want to view torchtopia,
Simply look around and youtube it
Stick shifts and swaps, we do it
    A rusted willy wagon?
    Tracy will do it…

  6. See you there! Look for the gray Monza, followed closely by either a cloud of tire smoke from the right rear or brake fluid smoke from the left rear. Maybe both!

    1. Pro tip: trace the outline of the faded clear coat and write the name of a country, real or imagined, on it (for bonus points, draw the names of districts/states and their respective borders within it) so people just think you have painted the map of a nation you love on your car.

  7. I need to figure out how to get my boss to ship me out to this on the company dime. “We work on Porsches, right? I write about broken cars for them sometimes, right?…”

  8. Alas I’ll be in Canada for business then, so I’ll have to pass on this one unfortunately. Having said that, I’ll be at San Clemente Cars and Coffee (another really big and diverse gathering – lots of variety) this Saturday morning, and the Malaise Daze car show for the Malaise Motors Facebook group at the Zimmerman Automotive Driving Museum near LAX at 10am on Sunday if you’ve got nothing better to do.

  9. “…whatever this two-door wagon is mounted atop a truck frame…”

    That’s a 1954 Ford and it’s not on a truck frame. It’s a gasser.

      In this case history would not be so bad to repeat. (-;
      Kids these days. (-=

  10. I’m impressed that dealer finally opened. I didn’t think it ever would. Granted it’s been almost four years since we moved away. Enjoy the party.
