David Does His First Cat Delete, Regrets It Immediately: COTD

Newly-minted California man David Tracy has discovered something baffling about his holy grail Jeep residing in an undisclosed parking lot in California. The Jeep Grand Cherokee, despite having its doors and windows closed, has become home to a cat.

David Tracy has hatched a plan to build the greatest Jeep Grand Cherokee ever by taking a base ZJ with a manual transmission and upgrading it using rare OEM parts into an off-road beast. The SUV’s base seats will get replaced with comfortable cloth seats with a fantastic design. Cargo area will get freed up after David removes the spare tire and places it in the hyper-rare, dealer-installed, MOPAR spare tire carrier. From there, he’s giving the Jeep a super rare gray grille, factory mud flaps, Euro-spec amber turn signals, and even a factory fuel tank skid plate. David will even swap out the hatch for a later ZJ hatch, which will have an opening window.

You know, for a brief moment I wanted to ask David for those cushy Laredo seats. I sat in one during his going away party and it felt better than any office chair I’ve ever sat in. It was better than many recliners I’ve parked my rear end in! I started brewing this plan to turn one of those seats into a gaming chair for my flight simulator. I’m glad I didn’t because this is sweet!

Further, I love to see cars upgraded with OEM parts that their cars didn’t have. You’ll get to read about it later, but I recently bought a Volkswagen diesel wagon that was only ever sold with an automatic transmission. Someone upgraded it with a manual transmission from another VAG product. It runs and drives like it came from the factory that way.

You’ll have to wait to read about it. For now, here’s COTD! David found a cat living in his Jeep and evicted the cute creature. The cat got in despite the doors and windows being closed. Maybe the cat got in by squeezing through the opening where the transmission’s shifter was? Cats are quite talented at temporarily transitioning to a fluid-like form.

Anyway, David started thinking that maybe he shouldn’t have deleted his cat. The animal clearly choose his holy grail, so it must be a holy grail in itself. Honestly, it would be awesome if David could collect that cat. At the minimum, he might be able to see if it’s someone’s lost cat. If not, his ZJ will have a friend! Sklooner takes the first COTD ribbon today for:

I see you already did the cat delete

Thad started a hilarious thread with:

David, Do note that cats usually don’t shit where they sleep. Cats are clean freaks.

LTDScott replied:

There’s a joke somewhere here comparing a cat’s cleanliness to David’s but I’m not witty enough to make it.

And SAABstory delivered the goods:

Trench foot:
Cat 0, David 1

Cat wins

Hopefully, David’s days of getting twrenchfoot are over. Also, speaking of the holy grail of cats, from IRegertNothing, Esq.‘s cat pedantry:

Not to be all feline pedantic, but that is a calico cat. Almost certainly a female as male calicos are exceptionally rare. The Holy Grail of cats, if you will.

The cat humor was all over the place. Here’s one more from Iwannadrive637:

I’m not sure about this. Those Calicos don’t have a good reliability history and you can’t even get parts for them anymore.

This weekend, my wife and I hope to finally make it out to Kaskaskia and explore the area. Why? Well, it’s the one piece of Illinois found west of the Mississippi River. She’s had a hard week and I think a day trip away from the troubles of the home office will be relaxing.

Have a great weekend, everyone! What are your plans?

  1. You are going to adopt that cat, right David? Random cats only show up when it is time for you to get a cat. Take it from someone who must have a random cat beacon with how often I find friendly strays hanging around my house.

And no, I don’t leave out any kind of food that could attract them Even if I did the skunks and opossums would eat it all first. I have no idea why the cats keep coming to me.

  2. Saw comment about diesel VW, knew it was a Mercedes article!

Cats make decent traveling companions if trained for it from kittenhood. Maybe this one has adopted the ZJ and will follow it? David may have a pet whether or not he wants one.

  3. I don’t care about the Jeep. I need to know more about the cat. She looks like my 19 year old girl who passed last year. Calico kitties are the best kitties. I hope she finds a home.

  4. Yay, another COTD call out!

Tomorrow I’m taking my Lemons racer out of mothballs to get it ready for a track day next month to give it a shakedown run before a race in September. It’s 90% ready to go but hasn’t been on track since 2021.
