As announced by the post linked here, we’ve got a twice-weekly newsletter for you (thrice-weekly, if you’re a Member). You can sign up for the newsletter right here. You need only fill in a few blanks, a medical exam is not required and no doctor will call you! But I’m not here to push the newsletter, despite no fewer than three hyperlinks in the first two sentences. I mention the newsletter announcement post because it is where we get today’s Comment of This Day. Onward …

Now, truth be told, I didn’t read the newsletter post, because I work here and I’m pretty lazy. And so I missed the bit where Matt (works here, not lazy) mentioned that Jason was doing his thing via Chumby. I would have Googled that, I assure you. But it certainly jumped out at me as I was looking for COTD contenders. It’s a funny-sounding word, and I like gadgets, and I don’t like not getting references, so I had to know what this “Chumby” was.

Chumbawumba

Had I read the newsletter post I would have seen Chumby was helpfully hyperlinked, just as it is there. You can also see the bizzaro beanbag-like internet-browser-alarm-clock thing in action right here. And it’s kinda cool, actually? But I digress. In addition to Duke of Kent being a cool Chumby owner, we have A. Barth with an excellent one-hit wonder reference. We’re talking Chumbawamba (isn’t it wumba? No, it’s wamba) and Tubthumping, which was absolutely inescapable in 1997 and remains so if you go to stadium sporting events or have friends who still extract CDs from massive binders when they want to hear some music.

And yes, that’s all it really takes to score a COTS medallion sometimes. Just give us a sensible chuckle.

    1. I’d like to take the 50/50 Regis.
The remaining answers are Cumbawamba and Chumbawumba for the million dollars.
Well I know it’s not Chumbawamba, Regis. So Chumbawumba. Final answer.
I’m so sorry, but it was Chumbawamaba. Go home and listen to “I Lost on Jeopardy” and think about how you made a fool of yourself in front of millions of viewers.

    1. Agreed, maniacal seems correct. I thought the whole reason this site was created, or at least the main reason I read it, is because Torch and David (and most of the writing staff) refuse to think or do anything in sensible terms?!
