On Saturday August 13, the entire Autopian staff and even a few of your favorite contributors will be hanging out at Galpin Auto Sports just north of Los Angeles. Drive your car here and get ready to geek out, because we’d love to meet you. I myself will be bringing a broken 1959 Nash, and I don’t even live in California yet, so those of you who do: no excuses!

Okay, so here are the details for the very first Autopian Car Show, which The Autopian boss Beau Boeckmann will be hosting on his property that I like to describe as automotive mecca. It’s a really special place, and you’re going to want to see it. Anyway, without further ado:

  • Date: Saturday, August 13, 2022
  • Time: 11 A.M. to 2 P.M.
  • Place: Galpin Auto Sports parking lot — 15600 Roscoe Blvd, Van Nuys, CA 91406
  • Who will be in attendance:
    • Jason Torchinsky
    • Matt Hardigree
    • Mercedes Streeter
    • Beau Boeckmann
    • Huibert Mees
    • Thomas Hundal
    • Mark Tucker
    • David Tracy
    • Hopefully many cool Autopian readers
  • Cars that will be in attendance:
    • Beau’s legendary car collection
    • A broken 1959 Nash Metropolitan
    • A Citroën LNA to (at least they said it’ll be there)
    • Who knows? But trust us, it’s going to be good.

RSVP on our Facebook page!

Come chat with Huibert and me about geeky engineering stuff, talk with Beau about the auto industry, try not to get tired of Jason chatting your ear off about taillights [Editor’s Note: If David gives us too much guff, we can sneak off to Flashing Amber’s, the Valley’s sixth-best taillight bar – JT] , learn about all the weirdest RVs and campers  and buses from Mercedes, chat about miniature radio-control cars and shitboxes with Mark, and beware of getting Thomas started talking about BMW minutiae because he won’t stop.

It’s gonna be good. We’re beyond excited to meet you and your car!

  1. Please come back to Richmond again. I was in the middle of a very David Tracy thing with my Accord, saving the catalytic converter whilst replacing the middle pipe, I was totally stranded, I accidentally cut in the right place to preserve the flange and it took three days. I had no money but I did have time and a jug of pb blaster. Anyway this is a cool town and you should come back. That’s all.

  2. Sweet! I’m going to try to make it out there from Riverside. Has anyone thought to invite Nate (the guy who gave David the Nash)? I’ve been following his posts on Curbside Classic for years, seems like a super interesting gearhead.

  3. So is this a car show only with Autopian staff vehicles, or are you inviting readers to show their vehicles? I’ll try to make this but the car I drive up from San Diego will depend on the answer to this question.

      1. Thanks, I will do my best to be there! Just wanted to clarify because even after reading the original post again it’s not super clear whether this is a curated car show you’re putting on and we would attend as pedestrians, or you’re asking us to bring our cars. Glad it’s the latter.

  4. I just realised the Renault 4 in the poster is a Sinpar 4×4! I knew the original image but the fact that it’s slightly rotated probably threw me off and I didn’t realise it immediately. Now I was casually scrolling by and noticed the rear diff 🙂

  5. I and three other fully grown adult humans are planning to squeeze into the Spark and drive for 5+ hours from the Bay to the meet. Wish us luck!

  6. I’m sorry, but my ex/BFF and I are hosting our condo association’s coffee klatsch that morning. But y’all have a good time!

(Seriously, if you’re ever in the Tampa area, I’d be there in a heartbeat…which thankfully remains strong despite my advanced age!)

  7. David,
Consider asking the Lane Museum if they would be interested in hosting a meet-up. Given a reasonable lead time, your readers could coordinate taking over part of a campground reasonably nearby (y’all have enough on your plate, and I’m sure you don’t want to get into the insurance ) to pull in people within a day’s drive. Could be a decent fund-raiser for them, too. I’ll commit to tucking a Benjamin in their pot.

*flight of fancy* — with some notice, I could see putting together a pop-up Tailight Bar…

    1. I second this. I live in Indiana, and I could do a day trip if needed. The only interesting car I have is a 2012 Suzuki Kizashi, though. I’d love to see Torch in person!

      1. Eh, I don’t have anything interesting to drive either, but just seeing the museum and meeting some of this crew is way worth 6 hours each way.
Gotta make name tag with username on it, too: that way people can put a face to inappropriate comments

    2. I’d make the drive down to the Lane from Detroit if given enough notice, and I would camp too. Love this idea. I really want to get down to the Lane Museum.

    3. This sounds like a doable plan for us. Of course, I will have to find a date that works for all of us. I’ll give Autopians a guided tour of our basement storage area (and another storage area not open to the public). We could even do a taillight-themed scavenger hunt if we can’t find a bar.

  8. Daaaaang that looks like a dope lineup of awesome writers I’d love to meet! Too bad it’s in LA (for me) though.

Would love to meet y’all and shake your hands if you ever come up to the PNW! Have fun!

  9. Wait, a Citroen LNA? Would that be Jonee’s LNA of the-other-auto-site-that-shan’t-be-named fame? I love that little thing! Any chance you could move the show 3600 miles closer to me here in Nova Scotia so I could attend? 😛

      1. Jonee! Excellent: this place just keeps getting better & better!
I hope to see your byline soon: miss the deep weirdness of your fleet & the dedicated optimism in keeping it going.

        1. Thanks! Maybe I can talk Jason into letting me contribute. The fleet is still weird and unpredictably reliable. I’m getting closer to getting the Fuldamobil running. That would make for an interesting article.

          1. YOU HAVE A FULDAMOBIL? HOW AM I NOT BEST FRIENDS WITH YOU.

I love quirky and weird cars…sounds like your fleet is EXACTLY my kind of thing, haha!

      2. Nice to see you on here man! I don’t think I’ve seen you for a long time! You’ve got to join us on new Oppo more often! I’d love to see more quirky auto content here and there! 🙂
